Dear University of Wisconsin Badger:

"Var-sity! Var-sity!?"  Remember singing those words after a football game or with a group of friends on graduation day?  While you can't recapture your youth, you can share your favorite UW experiences and talk about the good 'ol days by joining the UW Alumni Club of Connecticut and Western Massachusetts today!

"U-rah-rah! Wisconsin!..."  Rather than charging annual membership dues as we have in the past, we are asking anyone interested in connecting with nearby Badgers to donate a suggested $20 per year as a "friend" of the CT/Western MA Badgers.  This small donation helps defray our minimal administrative costs associated with membership mailings and maintenance of our new website – www.ctbadgers.com.  In return, you will be automatically included on our email distribution list so that you will be the first to know about club activities.

"Praise to thee we sing..."  The Alumni Club's main function is to fund scholarships for local students entering their first year at the UW.  Based on donations from nearby alumni and matching funds provided by the UW Foundation, I'm proud to say that we awarded Brian Slutz of Norwalk, Conn.; Anna Rockwell of Amherst, Mass.; and Georgia Wolfe of Northhampton, Mass., each with a scholarship of $3,000 in 2005.  Several club members are currently reviewing 2006 scholarship applications and hope to make final award decisions later this summer.  If you would like to make sure more students from Connecticut and Western Massachusetts have "the Wisconsin Experience" please donate to our scholarship fund (see reverse side).

"Praise to thee our Alma Mater..."  Anyone who has attended the UW knows that all work and no play makes Bucky a boring badger.  While dedicated to raising scholarship funds, club members also find time to gather together to watch football games at sports bars and swap stories at the annual Founder's Day Dinner.  This year's dinner at the Colonnade in Glastonbury featured biochemistry Professor David Nelson, who discussed the impact of Wisconsin scientists on the university and the world (did you know that Dr. Harry Steenbock – as in the Steenbock Memorial Library – developed an inexpensive method of enriching foods with Vitamin D in the 1920s).  Mark your calendars for Thurs., Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. when the club will meet for drinks and appetizers at a shoreline restaurant (to be named later this summer).

"U-rah-rah, Wisconsin!"  The UW Alumni Club of Connecticut and Western Massachusetts meets quarterly and is busy planning social events for the Fall.  But we need your ideas and input!  We are always looking for fresh faces and people who are passionate about the UW to get involved.  So please take a minute, fill out the MEMBERSHIP FORM and mail it in.  If you would like to contribute as a" friend" of the CT/Western MA Badgers, send in your donation with your contact information today!
