Badgers open their Big Ten season Posted: 24 September 2008 | Greetings Fellow Badgers! This Saturday the Badgers open their Big Ten season against the Meechigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor. And guess what? The Badgers are favored by 6½ points! It's been awhile since the Badgers were favored in a face-off at the Big House. Michigan leads the series 26-6 in Ann Arbor. This will be the first time UW has faced an unranked Michigan team since 1967 and the first time UW is ranked and the Wolverines are not since 1959. The game is being carried by ABC and will be shown in Connecticut, but those of you in Massachusetts might want to check the coverage map at http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?page=coveragemaps2008. Have no fear though, because the game should be carried on ESPN or ESPN2 in areas where it's not on ABC, per a deal that the Big Ten negotiated prior to the start of the 2007 season. Announcers are Brad Nessler, Bob Griese, Paul Maguire, Stacey Dales. It's a 3:30 pm start, and Saturday's looking to be rainy, so why not join us at Rookies for some good company, good food and good drinks? Directions are available at http://www.rookiesrocks.com/directions.php. For those of you undergoing Badger football withdrawal after a week off, check out this YouTube video of Badgers history over the years. It will put you in the mood for Saturday. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DwnmFMHoQg And for those of you who enjoy watching former Badgers, Joe Thomas' Cleveland Browns offensive line wasn't invincible on Sunday. Who managed to beat them? None other than Jim Leonhard (from tiny Tony)! For a photo of Jim's quarterback sack, go to http://scores.espn.go.com/nfl/photos?photoId=2043615&gameId=280921033. Jim also had two solo tackles, a punt return and three kick returns, averaging over 20 yards per return in both punt and kick returns. Go Jimmy!! And for those of you who want to read more about Jim, here's a nice article from earlier in the season: http://www.eveningsun.com/localsports/ci_10157276. In other Badger alumni news, former Badger cornerback Jamar Fletcher has been signed by the Cincinnati Bengals. And Chris Chambers caught a 27-yard touchdown pass on Monday night to give San Diego a 24-14 lead over the New York Jets. Though he has just six catches on the season, Chambers is tied for the NFL lead with four touchdown grabs. Lee Evans recorded four catches for 65 yards in the Bills' 24-23 comeback win over the Oakland Raiders. Edit |
