Homecoming – 10/25 Posted: 15 October 2008 | Greetings Fellow Badgers! Homecoming – 10/25 First of all, some Homecoming news. Rookies will once again be supporting the Badgers in our celebration of Homecoming by offering some familiar "Wisconsin" foods as luncheon specials on October 25th. The Badgers will be taking on the Illini at noon that day, so plan on joining us. In honor of this year's Homecoming theme, "Bucky to the Rescue", we'll be collecting food and monetary donations for Foodshare of Hartford at Rookies on the day of the game. The WAA is helping sponsor this event, so there will be a chance to win prizes and official Homecoming pins. Please let me know by Monday, October 20th, if you even thinking about coming, so I can give Rookies a heads-up. Last Week The Badgers really took it on the chin last week, getting trounced by Penn State 48-7. After falling behind under quarterback Allan Evridge, who racked up a fumble and interception, Evridge was replaced late in the third quarter by backup Dustin Sherer. While he finished 9 for 17 for 115 yards, he too suffered an interception. Add in the poor punting, 12 men in the huddle and kick return penalties, and it all added up to another supremely frustrating game. For the first time since 2002, UW is 0-3 in Big Ten play. However, there's no reason to conclude the sky is falling just yet. Teams coached by Barry Alvarez in 2000 and 2002 started off with the same record. For more perspective, read Matt LePay's (the radio voice of the Badgers) blog at http://www.uwbadgers.com/blogs/default.aspx?postid=1534. This Week This Saturday the Badgers head to Iowa to take on the Hawkeyes. Will the Badgers come into the game demoralized and beaten up, or will they be a dangerous cornered animal? To find out, you can watch the game on the Big Ten Network, starting at noon. Or you can show everyone that you're not just a fair-weather fan by joining us at Rookies to watch the game. After Badger wins over Iowa the past two years, the Hawkeyes will be bent on revenge. Iowa has been fairly effective at stopping the run, but may have a weakness in the short passing area. Bret Bielema indicated that the quarterback spot for Saturday's game will be up for grabs, depending on how things look this week. And that quarterback will be working with an offensive line that has suffered some injuries. Gabe Carimi, who missed the PSU game with a leg injury, has vowed to be back this week. Senior guard Craig Urbik, who suffered a knee injury in the PSU game, was in considerable pain on Sunday and was scheduled to undergo tests on Monday. That's it for this week! Hope to see you at Rookies this Saturday and please let me know if you plan on coming to Rookies on 10/25 (ctbadger83@aol.com or a direct response to my weekly e-mail will work just fine). Edit |
