Rose Bowl predictions are out the window

Posted: 21 October 2008

So?. This season isn't exactly turning into what we expected.  All those preseason Rose Bowl predictions are out the window and now we're just hoping for another win?

In Saturday's game against the Hawkeyes, junior Dustin Sherer started as quarterback, in place of Allan Evridge.  But the change wasn't enough to spark a Badger win.  Sherer was 17 of 34 for 161 yards and two interceptions.  Sophomore Scott Tolzien replaced Sherer in the fourth quarter and led the Badgers to their only touchdown of the game.  He was 4 of 7 for 90 yards and one interception.  On the Badger message boards, fair-weather fans are giving up on the Badgers.  Someone has even started a www.firebretbielema.com website.  But those of us who are old-timers know that you have to take the bad with the good? we've just been lucky to have a lot more good than bad the past few years.

This Saturday, the Badgers take on the Illini as part of their 101st Homecoming celebration.  Let's hope this year's theme, Bucky to the Rescue, comes true and that somehow Bucky can help this team out of its current slide.  The game begins at noon EDT and will be shown on ESPN2.  However, rather than watching the game at home on ESPN2, why not head down to Rookies for a special Homecoming celebration?  If the game's not going well, at least we can cheer each other up with Badger reminiscences!  Plus, bring some non-perishable food or a donation for Foodshare and you'll have a chance to win some Badger goodies.  And those bringing in the first donations will receive a Bucky to the Rescue homecoming pin!  Even if you didn't previously RSVP, please consider joining us.

For this Saturday's game, Dustin Sherer has once again been named as the starting quarterback.  In an interesting twist, Evridge is listed third on the depth chart, behind Sherer and Tolzien.

Badgers in the NFL?

For those of you who like to watch the Badgers in the NFL, did you see Lee Evans' one-handed catch this past weekend?  If not, go to http://www.buffalobills.com/media-lounge/videos/wk-7-cant-miss-play-lee-evans-one-hand-td-catch/30396be6-9eb4-4da0-af91-31ffc39e5ded.  Owen Daniels scored his first two touchdowns of the season in the Houston Texans' win over the Detroit Lions.  Jim Leonhard had 5 solo tackles and blitzed Chad Pennington on a play where Pennington threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown.

That's it for this week!  Let's see you at Rookies on Saturday!!
