A few more things! Posted: 15 October 2009 | To read a great article on Scott Tolzien and the special relationship he's developed with a 6-year-old cancer patient, go to: http://www.jsonline.com/sports/badgers/64304972.html. Wisconsin's fight song, "On Wisconsin", turns 100 years old this year and during this Saturday's homecoming game against Iowa, the Wisconsin Marching Band under the direction of Mike Leckrone will present a special halftime show to celebrate its centennial. Did you know that Carl Beck, who wrote the lyrics, was born in New Haven? That the original verse was to "Run the ball 'round Minnesota" (as opposed to "down the field" or "round Chicago"), as the song debuted at a game against Minnesota? Or that at least 18 other colleges have used versions of "On Wisconsin" as their own fight songs? To learn more about the history of the song or to listen to historic performances of the song (including some including the introduction, which is not often played today), go to: http://archives.library.wisc.edu/uw-archives/exhibits/onwisconsin/.
