Founders' Days commemorate the first class held at UW-Madison, taught by Professor John Sterling on February 5, 1849. Founders' Days celebrations got their official name seventy years ago, although the events marking the founding of the university started several years before that, instigated by Robert Crawford '03, who was then serving in the position of general secretary (now executive director) of WAA.
The Madison 1924 Founders' Day was a doozy. UW archivist Frank Cook says "that rowdy celebration opened with bells and factory whistles all over the city chiming in to congratulate the university on reaching its 75th anniversary."
Founders Day is this chapter's premier annual event. Whilst we don't often take over an entire city, we do hold the event at a pleasant venue to allow us to enjoy each other's company, have a nice meal, and listen to an interesting talk from a visiting luminary (Numen lumen) from Madison.

Founders Day 2006
The UW Alumni Club of Connecticut and Western Massachusetts held its annual Founders' Day in April 2006 at the Colonnade in Glastonbury.
This year's dinner featured biochemistry professor David Nelson, who entertained the audience with a little history of the impact of Wisconsin scientists on the university and world. Did you know that warfarin (also known under the brand name Coumadin®) is named for the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation, since it was a Wisconsin chemist, Karl Paul Link, that developed the anticoagulant in 1948?
